Search Engine Marketing ~ PPC on the Search Engines
Gaining
in popularity, and hugely profitable for the search engines,
are PPC (Pay Per Click) Programs which is the webmarketing
approach sometimes referred to as "Buying Keywords".
Paying for Top Ranking (Sponsor Matches) is a way to make sure
you stay at or near the top of the SERPS (search engine result
pages). You bid on a PPC (pay per click) basis search words/phrases
that are important when describing your products or services. The PPC means you pay every time someone clicks on your
paid listing.
The
downside, other than the often high cost monthly cost, is that almost 3 out of 4 people in a recent major
WebMarketing Survey responded that they view "paid listings" as advertisements and view the natural (organic) listings as probably having content more relevant to their search.
We're not saying PPC is an ineffective method to drive
traffic to your website (it's part of OUR overall web marketing
strategy), we're just saying it can require a LOT of time & money
to play the game right.
